Pressemitteilung (english)FON LAUNCHES LINUX INSTALLATION TOOL FOR MANDRIVA COMMUNITY PARIS – April 16th 2007– FON, the largest WiFi community in the world, announced the launch of « DrakFON », a free installation tool that enables a Mandriva user to easily install the FON firmware on any FON-compatible WiFi router. The user downloads the DrakFON on the FON website (www.fon.com/fr/download) or through various Mandriva media, plugs in his/her router and then simply launches the application to convert it into a FON Access Point (« FONspot »). Once the FON firmware is installed on the router, the user can begin to share his/her WiFi with the FON Community and connect for free to any FONspot in the world. The application is under the GPL licence and is an integral part of Mandriva's Linux 2007 Spring distribution. It is available on all the versions of the distribution, from Mandriva One to Mandriva Linux Powerpack, as well as on RPM packets repositories. FON and Mandriva are also currently working on specific joint partnerships abroad, namely in Brazil where Mandriva is very present following its merger with Conectiva. By launching this application, FON aims to stress its attachment to the Linux community and to Open Source around the world. For Jean-Bernard Magescas, President of FON France, « DrakFON is our first project realised in France with a Linux community. The first of many, as we are currently working on a wide variety of projects and partnerships with these communities. We are very happy to have started with Mandriva and to have given our support to this company. »
