La Fonera Subsidy Ending

The price of La Fonera will increase to $29.95 in the USA and 29 euros in Europe by the end of next week. We’ve been subsidizing the Foneras for $5.00 or 5 euros but they cost us about $28.00. Because we’ve been very successful in seeding the Fon movement we are planning to end the subsidies shortly. If you’ve been thinking about joining Fon, now is the time!

Does that mean that those of us with no access so far to the sudsidized version because we live outside the countries where it is offered will have to pay full price when it is eventually offered in our countries?

Malcolm, I don't know the answer to that yet. That decision will be made as we move forward with adding countries.

If they cost you 28$ and you sell them for 29€ in Europe, you are not only not losing money, but earning around 7$ with each sale.

I recommend you to reconsider this decision to cease with the subisdising. I understand that there are financial considerations behind this, but the low prize was JUST SO RIGHT. It took away the finanial barrier, it made so many peope to just say YES and order... I fear things will ge just so much tougher with this new price scheme. And we are all in agreement that growing and growing is what we all want, right?

So please reconsider; find some more partners to chipp in with fresh money.

So, Fon ends their subsidy and instead gets Europe to subsidise the USA like so many other companies.
$29.95 = €23.41 not €29.95.
I noticed somewhere that this was justified by stating that the sales tax in Europe is higher, however this price does not include sales tax which makes it even more expensive at €34.74!

What happened to the special offer that FON was going to send to existing Foneros? This was in an email I received on 19-Sept:

> Hello Fonero!
>
> Today we are launching La Fonera, the FON Community's
> new Social Router. You will soon be receiving a new special
> offer to take it home. We wish to thank you for always
> believing in FON, so we will send you another e-mail to
> offer you La Fonera in a very special promotion (including
> a surprise). Just wait and you'll be able to enjoy all the
> privileges you deserve!

So I did the "just wait" thing, not getting a subsidized La Fonera, but I have yet to see another email with any kind of "special offer".

I just found this website, at $5 I was considering plugging this thing into my house... at $29.95 I realize that there is nothing wrong with my current wireless router and it isnt likely I will ever use the free access benefit since I dont currently have a laptop and I nobody else around here participates.
