Would They Share?
We have launched wouldtheyshare.com, a website about whether Britain is a sharing nation. We want to spread the word about FON in the UK, and for that reason we created wouldtheyshare.com. Our site reveals the Brits' attitudes towards sharing, and we are giving away 100 La Fonera+ among people who answer our daily sharing question and register at fon.com. And there is more! Amongst this month's voters, we are giving away a trip to Madrid (flight + hotel) for two people. Check the details here: http://www.wouldtheyshare.com/win.php

Malaga becoming first Fonero City!
Malaga Spain is becoming the world's first Fonero city! (we already have Fonero towns but not a city of over half a million people). City Hall is already a FONspot and the city of Malaga is putting up FON Routers and Fontennas in all of its public buildings. FON will donate over 2000 La Foneras to Malaga's citizens who will place them in their windows. Malaga is a popular destination, its airport has 13 million passengers per year. These visitors will get free WiFi if they are Foneros anywhere in the planet or can pay 3 euros per day if they are not. FON's model was chosen over the Muni WiFi model that the city first considered because our model involves citizen participation, is extremely inexpensive for cities, and has the collaboration of ISPs and telcos who sell more broadband connections. Thank you, Malaga!

Invitation Program in Europe and USA – Free Foneras!
Starting December 21st Foneros in Europe and the USA can invite their friends to join FON and receive a free La Fonera! If you have an active Access Point you are eligible to participate in our “Fonero Gets Fonero” campaign.
Martin Varsavsky, founder and CEO of FON, regards the "Fonero gets Fonero" campaign as a gift to the Community:
"It is Christmas time and we want to thank our loyal FONeros and reward their trust and commitment by offering them the opportunity to give new community members a Christmas present. At the same time, it is they who decide which friends they most want to surf with. In this way, they enlarge the community with FONspots in sought-after locations."
It’s easy and your friends get a La Fonera mailed to them free!
Update: In Europe you will receive 1 invite at a time. When your friend activates La Fonera your next invite will appear!

Swedish, Finnish and Danish Foneros - free La Fonera
Between now and Christmas Swedish, Finnish and Danish foneros can get their foneras for free at FON!
When you access the site it will state the cost is 29.95 euros. However when you go to the Swedish, Danish and Finnish shops the fonera is FREE for those countries. No credit card information is required. We do ask you to promise to be a good fonero, it is a promise, not a contract. All you need to do is agree that you will keep your fonera on or else pass it on to another fonero who says he/she will.

The Bills land on the WiFi Planet
It’s fiesta time at FON. We’re launching the Bills! We’re inviting you to join the celebration and discover all the new features we’ve added to FON.
Starting today, FONeros will be able to milk their WiFi by choosing to become a BILL! The idea is simple: Bills earn money when visitors who do not share their WiFi with FON (a.k.a “Aliens”) buy a FON Pass at the Bills’ FON Hotspot.
FONeros will also have access to a new and personalized User Zone where all kinds of user information will be accessed and edited in real time. For example, as a FONero, you’ll be able to promote and give free access to your blog or website and leave personal messages on your FON Hotspot’s Access Portal that appears every time a user connects to your WiFi signal. Even better, your FON Travel Log will let you trace your footsteps and see where you connected to FON in the past. You’ll also be able to see who is connected to your FON Hotspot at any given moment. If you decide to become a Bill, you’ll be able to keep track of all the connection passes you’ve sold.
Of course, we haven’t forgotten all those who have registered an account with FON but still don’t have a FON Social Router. Take advantage of our special offer, we’re subsidizing them so that you can buy one today for only €/$ 5!
To find out more about all the new FON features being launched, visit our website today at www.fon.com and help us build the WiFi Planet!

The first routers in the USA were shipped two days ago. We will continue shipping all this week. You should be receiving emails over the next few days asking you to confirm your purchase. The same applies for routers shipping out of Spain to orders placed within the EU. Have FON!

Fonero meeting in Paris

French foneros gathered for an informal get together in Martin's apartment in Paris last Saturday. It was a great opportunity to ask questions to Yann (fonero leader for France) and Martin, and to share some thoughts and ideas. One particularly interesting idea to surface after the meeting came from Olivier Zablocki who plans to lead a maritime FON campagin that he calls 7 Seas FON. In a nutshell, the campaign aims to create a network of local communities of foneros marineros near sea-ports and inland ports where each community offers free year-round accomodation for travelling foneros marineros who pass by their port. Read more about it here (French only).
Cehck out more pictures of the Fonero meeting last Saturday. (thank you Rodrigo!)
If you have an idea that you want to share or are thinking of starting an initiative based on FON, let us know by posting a comment below or write us at info@fon.com. We'd love to hear from you!

FON launch at Les Blogs
Yesterday, FON held its official French launch at Les Blogs, the blogger conference organised by Six Apart which ends today. Martin spoke on the panel entitled " How is blogging affecting corporations?". When asked about how he launched FON, Martin reminded the crowd how he had spent tens of millions of euros on advertising for his previous start-ups whereas today the FON buzz was started and continues to be spread almost entirely through blogging.
The reaction to FON at conference so far has been phenomenal. Many of the 350+ participants have already caught the FON bug, slapped on a FON sticker and are spreading the word. As the french say here "La révolution FON est en marche!"
