Routers shipping

The first routers in the USA were shipped two days ago. We will continue shipping all this week. You should be receiving emails over the next few days asking you to confirm your purchase. The same applies for routers shipping out of Spain to orders placed within the EU. Have FON!

Exciting Exciting Exciting :-/
:( we in BiH will miss that opportunity to get routers for that 25+ €...
is there any chance to ship out the EU, btw year income is much lower in BiH than in EU or USA..
wouldn't you help people in undeveloped countries more that others :) :(..???

i wanted to order one too, but after noticing that the end price probably will be around 50 Euro for me (25 eur + 18 eur shipping (!) + tax (16%)), only 10 eur under the street price.

10 euro hardly is 50% of 60 euro if i remember my math correctly...

i'll rather buy without all this "if you don't complay for a year, we want it back" thing...

10 bucks just doesn't cut it. especially if the handling in case of failure probably isn't gonna be easy.

Cool!
Now I just need to be able to order it :-( I've received the mail, but my login is not accepted, even if I'm sure the account parameters are correct (I can login on site for examples). What is not working?
Thanks

Well, just ordered one to ship here in Italy...waiting for confirmation :-)

# 8 | Sent by: Giorgio Zarrelli – Saturday, February 18, 2006 (11:21)

Yeah, but the website is kinda buggy, I can't login to actually order the router after having received the email.

# 9 | Sent by: Berry – Saturday, February 18, 2006 (18:38)

It would be cool, but I can not login at the checkout (bug filled).

Received my confirmation today, but fon shop does not accept my userid/password ????? Is something wrong still ?

I signed up for my FON router on February 6, 2006.

I received my initial, "Congratulations! YOu are among one of the 3,000 first users to benefit...for a FON Ready router.

In the next few days we will contact you to finalize the purchase..."

I have NEVER received any further communication from FON despite having sent a further inquiry on February 15th emphasizing that I still wanted to receive the FON router.

I requested FON to "Please advise as to when I might expect contact from FON and receipt of the router."

This was on February 15th and to date late on February 18th, I still have not heard a further word of any kind from the FON "team".

Please let me know when I might expect to hear from the FON team in regards to the FON router that I was supposedly amongst the first 3,000 to sign up and order.

Thanks for your help on this matter,

Stan

PS - I live in a city with 1.5 million people and there is only one other FON Wifi user that I am aware of at this point. I'm in close proximity to a very high density population area to boot. I would love to come aboard but seem to be lost in space somewhere.

Would be cool if FON published the total amount of routers shipped.

We are only sending out emails several hundred at a time. We are trying not to overload the ordering system. So if you don't receive your follow up email this week send me an email ejovi at fon dot com.

Same problem as Peter. Received my confirmation today, but fon shop does not accept my userid/password ?????

I do agree that shipping is kinda expensive: The E/$25 deal is great (altho I would prefer to pay $25 than E25), but adding E18 in shipping & tax makes it around E50. So the handeling is the same as the product?
Also, I'm not yet sure what I get when I order. I mean, I get a router with your firmware, but does it support two networks? I would want a setup where I can use my own network with WPA protecion, and a 'free' network for other Fonero's. And I would preffer to do that with one device, power (and space, and radio-bandwith) wise. I'm not sure if I can do that with the fon thing (yet?).
(I want WPA for my own traffic, because I don't like the fact that otherwise any hacker in the neigbourhood could listen to my passwords and other data. I know, small chance, but still).
If it doesn't support 2 networks, I have to setup 2 routers, with the added hardware & power costs. I don't know yet if FON is worth that to me(some E50 + some E20/year in power costs (10W?), at this point.

I can't speak about the prices for shipping in the EU. But the routers retail for $70USD so with shipping its a pretty good deal.

The current firmware DOES create to seperate networks.

# 18 | Sent by: Ejovi Nuwere – Tuesday, February 21, 2006 (15:38)

The shipping charge is too high at €18. This is overnight rate across europe and really assumes that foneros have nothing else to do with their life but wait for a router! You can ship airmail rather than Express for less than half the cost. None of us is made of money so no need to rush!

# 19 | Sent by: Alan – Wednesday, March 1, 2006 (21:45)

i've seen the router in germany for 59 euro (just 10 euro over the fonero price including shipping+vat) as said above...
i know international shipping is a bitch - and you're not specializing in logistics.

but why not just dish out some amazon coupons for people agreeing to install the software and service for a year to buy the router locally? would have the added bonus of us having local service and warranty.

Question I am just now hearing about this service is there anyone who has anything positive about the service ???? I have not put my router on my network yet If this is a company just starting out in the US then should we give it some time to make the proper adjustments for out WiFi network?

# 22 | Sent by: Chris – Saturday, March 11, 2006 (23:37)

I received the Linksys router very excited about being a member of the FON community. My excitement is gone and now heading into the land beyond frustration. I want to return my router since it did not recognize me as a member when I went to initialize it nor can I use it as my own wireless router (I have a feeling I'll have to be a paying member contrary to the offer posted on the site given that I had to sign up as a new user to initialize it and enter by giving my user name and password each time I want internet access). After a couple emails to FON, there has been zero response. The FON folks may be brilliant for coming up with concepts and executing new technology but their customer service is gonna kill them. Basic business common sense FON folks. Customers are your revenue generators.
