It would be nice Toronto, Canada able to enjoy such movement, if only if I have the free WIFI router. :-)

Can't agree more with Jean.
Why only in the EU???
FON should get some pocket money from Google and distribute free routers all over silicon valley, and other metropolitan areas!!!

Guess you guys are thinking about it and the program will migrate over Atlantic.

BTW, I live in the Valley, but I already have a router...:-(

(Difficulty in big cities is that there are fewer residential households on 1st/2nd floors, and a lot of people are living high up, which means that FON network coverage will be a challenge...)

Maybe another item for Fon to distribute would be higher gain antenna's? From lots of websites there are schematics for self-build antenna's, for only a few bucks. But building them is not something everyone would want to do. I guess it would be (relatively) easy possible for Fon to have those produced in some low cost country (china, etc). If those would be distributed with Fon members, the coverage of the Fon network could go up, without the need for more members (not that more members aren't needed, but this would improve the coverage with the current memberset).
I would place an antenna outside, or near my window, if Fon would supply it. And the Linksys has 2 antenna's, so I think it should be possible to use one internal, and one external.

There is an outdoor antenna being developed now. I'll post more details when it's finalized.

Here is an older post about it:

Looks nice! But in that tread your talking about an own router. While that's great for new people, I just bougth a Linksys from you guys, and would rather have a new (free?) antenna, than a new router (that would be a kind of waste).
