FON’s fearless leader Martin Varsavsky has blogged about the team up between FON and Zing with respect to the Sansa device.
Whilst I haven’t played with the Sansa, here’s what Martin has to say about it
After playing with the Sansa I believe that there will be a real fight between the Sansa and the iPod. The only element in which the iPod clearly beats the Sansa is in memory. Other than that, the Sansa experience is Endgaget says ‘a solid alternative to the iPod’ (read all the review as Endgadget is a solid alternative to my blog).
This deal is similar to the one FON has with Skype. Quoting from the press release
Under this agreement, free FON routers will be distributed with the purchase of a ZING partner device, as determined by the partner. Consumers who become Foneros, and share their WiFi connectivity with the FON network, will have unlimited access to any FON access point free of charge. Under a special program, music players with ZING may also access the FON network by purchasing a subscription for the low cost of $12/year or $1/ month. In addition to expanded access and coverage, the ZING software will be developed to provide easy connections, optimized coverage, and reception.
